A First Chapter…

In my experience, the first chapter is always where we find our heroine sitting quietly in her plebeian clothing in her plain home doing something that is considerably unremarkable. The buildup is gradual and time consuming as we get to know this seemingly dull and boring person that we expect to be saving the entire world. We read on, anticipation growing with the turn of each page, waiting for just an ounce of action to suddenly snag our focus and draw us in. It can be exhausting for some, but I’ve always liked first chapters. In the first chapters, we have the privilege of learning about these characters on a beautiful personal level. We can form their faces. Hear their voices for the first time. I read these first chapters and compare them to my life. I see that they aren’t so different.  So here’s to all of the first chapters. Here’s to finding out more about the characters you meet, and appreciating the small details that will eventually help them become our heroes. Or loving the details within ourselves and knowing that one day we will save the day.
